Lint on Your Clothes? Here's Why!
Lint on Your Clothes? Here's Why!
It seems like no matter how hard you try, lint appears like magic. While the problem may be less noticeable on things like socks, it is tedious to try to clean off a pair of slacks right before work every morning. So how can you prevent the problem?
Where Does Lint Come From?
Fabrics shed, it's a part of their nature. Even newer articles of clothing will have short fibers that come loose. As the article of clothing is used, these fibers tend to gather around points of friction. These fibers (usually cotton, linen, wool, and other natural substances) bunch together, creating visible collections we call lint. There are a few ways to keep your clothing lint-free!
Prevention
- Regularly cleaning your washer and dryer filters (these machines collect the loose fibers automatically, but without being cleaned, they can end up redepositing the lint)
- If it still seems like your clothing is gathering lint from washing/drying, you may need to clean the vents (sometimes fiber build-up can travel up the tubes, and cause other problems)
- Note which articles of clothing seems to attract lint, and turn it inside-out for washing/drying
- Use dryer sheets (this will help prevent lint from sticking to clothing)
Removal
If none of the prevention tips seem to help, here are some of the best ways to remove the lint:
- Lint Rollers, or tape. This is certainly a quick fix, but might not work as well/quickly on certain fabrics, or larger clothing
- Dryer Sheets. That's right! Quickly wipe down the clothing with a dryer sheet on your way out the door.
- Professional cleaning. For some of your fabrics, it might be best to get them cleaned by experts, to ensure a clean, professional look at the office.
